Creating a Tempeh Category: Better Nature
Anant speaks with Christopher Kong and Elin Roberts, co-founders of Better Nature Tempeh.
Chris and Elin describe their mission to build a new protein category in the West around tempeh, the fermented soybean food from Indonesia. The founding team came together through Elin’s introduction to vegan living, Indonesian food scientist Dr Driando Ahnan’s expertise, and nutritionist Fabio Rinaldo’s enthusiasm for tempeh.
At the time of the interview, Better Nature’s organic and pre-marinated tempeh was listed in major supermarkets in the UK and Germany.
The founders discuss building a plant-based company, from early challenges to B-Corp certification and their commitment to donate 1% of revenue to a charitable cause in Indonesia.
