30 Years of Compassion: Viva!

Juliet Gellatley founded the animal rights charity Viva! thirty years ago. She recalls the teenage visit to a pig farm that set her on the path, and the campaigns of the 1980s and 90s that drew major media attention.

The conversation covers the role of celebrity support in promoting veganism, and Viva!’s use of VR to put viewers inside factory farming conditions.

Gellatley also introduces the charity’s latest campaign, ‘Would You Swap?’, which challenges university students to reconsider their food choices, and looks at how vegan campaigning has changed over three decades.
